A little like a bad cold? (Wk3/16)
At the end of a lingering cold there's a day when the symptoms dissipate and life has never been better. Chemo seems to follow a similar pattern. About a week after my first dose, one afternoon my manager said, "what are you doing here? Time for you to go home". I obliged and headed out. I got to spend some time alone, put my feet up, watched an episode of "The Great British Baking Show," had a modest dinner and crashed...before 7pm. The next day I woke feeling AWESOME; a cloud had been lifted. Jitters and spaciness I had come to accept as the "new norm" were completely gone. I had made it through my first Chemo dose.
This week as I was getting ready for my second dose, I couldn't help but feel like I was staring down the barrel of a gun. Monday I felt fine. Tuesday I had a date to have chemicals pumped into my bloodstream; a sort of scheduled sickness with an unknown level of nausea, unrest, fogginess. Armed with what I learned the first go around, I've been comfortable and cogent for the most part. If the pattern from last go around holds, I'll be tired and a little slow for just about a week and then pop back for a few 'normal' days (finger crossed). Ain't modern medicine grand.
News this week? We managed to pull off our 'standard' Halloween trick or treat gathering (yay!) and my hair is starting to fall out. When I brush my hair it comes away in clumps. What a sad way to see my cute pixie haircut fade. Next up? Wig time!
